Reparation: A commencement milestone, and the life of Carole V. (Clark) McBride

Carole Vianne (Clark) McBride (1941-2023), Nashwauk-Keewatin Class of 1961, will be honored posthumously on Dec. 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. in a public ceremony that will be held in the Nashwauk -Keewatin High School Auditorium, where the children of McBride will receive a “signed” high school diploma in an act of reparation 62-years later.

Carole was born with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a group of movement disorders that affect the brain and muscles, often causing poor coordination, stiff muscles, and weakness. Carole could not pass the necessary gym class requirements at that time. One week prior to graduation, her parents were notified in a letter that Carole did not have to show up for graduation, she would not be receiving a signed diploma.
