Elevating Our Black Businesses: Majestic Hair Studio

By Busta Brown

It’s the holiday season! Lots of galas, Christmas parties, family gatherings and other events. Ladies, if you’re looking for a hair studio and stylist, look no further than Majestic Hair Studio in Winston-Salem. Let’s meet the CEO and owner, Alice Everett.

Share with us the age that you knew doing hair was your gift, and your journey from then to where you are today.

I do not know my exact age, but I knew it in middle school. I fell in love with the art of styling and making others feel great. I have worked for other companies, soaking in all the training provided, until I heard the Lord during the pandemic in August of 2020 saying this was my time. I asked a question saying, it’s a pandemic. Who will come get their hair done? And he simply said, will you trust me? I was obedient.

When did you open Majestic Hair Studio? Tell us about the work that went into building your business.

I opened Sept 21, 2020. It wasn’t very difficult in the beginning because of my support system and my mentor who has her own successful business. Everything came into fruition.

What services do you provide?

I offer multiple styles, but I specialize in natural hair care services. I do styles such as silk press, loc retwists, two strand twist, braiding, and multiple hair care treatments that enable healthy hair and growth.

Take us through a consultation.

A Majesty consultation consists of sitting in my chair, getting to know you. What is your occupation, what do you do for fun, what styles have you tried, and have they or haven’t they worked? Does the client use any kind of chemicals, and asking if the client is on any kind of medication, understanding that is a major factor with hair and scalp treatments. Really feeling out the client to provide the best in customer service and making sure the client is satisfied when they come in for a visit.

What are some of your favorite hairstyles that you love doing and why?

I love doing silk press, trimming ends and braiding! Silk press can keep the hair healthy by keeping ends trimmed and seeing growth. Braiding, because it’s considered a protective style that enables clients to not have to worry about doing their hair for a while and it’s versatile.

What hairstyle have you mastered that your clients refuse to let anyone else do it and why?

The silk press. For me, all my products that I use during silk press have a heat protector in it so there is no damage to the hair.

Other than your excellent work as a hairstylist, what are some other factors that get you repeat clients?

I provide excellent customer service, timeliness, and I care about the health of my client’s hair. Great listening skills and I provide great quality.

I noticed on your social media platforms, you give birthday shout-outs and other acknowledgements to your clients. Why is that important?

It’s important because without my clients, Majesty would not be what it is! My clients are the reason I’m able to do what I love and have passion to do, so I will always acknowledge them and let them know they are important.

Share with us how you developed such a diverse clientele.

When I first became a stylist, I worked at places like Great Clips and Fantastic Sams that provide diversity with its clientele, going through their training, sharpening my skill set.

Take us through a consultation when a client asks questions such as … Will this compliment my face shape? Will this work with my type of hair? What color do you think works best with my complexion?

First, I need to know their occupation because some employers don’t allow certain colors. I do look at the texture of their hair and see how it can be styled. Does the client know how to style their own hair? I take all of that into account.

How do you decide which products to suggest to your clients?

By looking at their hair as far as if they are color treated, do they style their hair themselves, is their hair dry, oily, and what does the client want their hair to look like.

When you’re having a tough day at your studio, do you have a favorite quote or scripture that helps calm your spirit?

Yes, Galatians 6:9: “And let us not be weary in doing well for in due season we shall reap a harvest if we faint not.”

Who has been your support team throughout your journey?

My Mom and Dad, my church family, Greater Faith Empowerment Church, my Godmother Mary McEachern, and my significant other, Carlyle Jimmerson, Normandi Perry, Alice Stroud and a host of friends and others that help support my dream!

How do we reach you to schedule an appointment?
