DECATUR, GA—Dozens of businesses and entrepreneurs were honored at the 4th Annual Black Business Celebration and Showcase.
The Aug. 10 celebration, hosted by DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, was held to promote the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The celebration called attention to the economic impact and importance of Black businesses while also offering an opportunity to network within the community and inspire future generations of entrepreneurs.
“This was a historic moment to be around African American Trail Blazers,” said Commissioner Larry Johnson. “Events like this are important especially for our young people to see us move through history as we move forward.”
Johnson was presented with an award recognizing his outstanding contributions and service to DeKalb County as being one of the longest-serving commissioners in DeKalb County’s 200-year history.
Additionally, there was a Black business showcase where all of the business owners shared the wide range of products and services that they offer.
The celebration was a catalyst for change, growth, and a brighter future for the entire community, organizers said.
Alice White Bussey, the first African American FTD florist in Atlanta, chaired the event.
Commissioner Johnson hosted the event in partnership with DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond, DeKalb County Purchasing & Contracting, Decide DeKalb, DeKalb County Community Development and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta.
