Black Mental Health Advocate Joins The OBSERVER As Monthly Columnist

OBSERVER Newsroom

Jocelyn Jackson Williams will join The Sacramento OBSERVER, producing a monthly column titled, “Jocelyn Takes on…” Starting in August, the column will address issues surrounding love, life, and loss in the Black community.

Williams’ perspective in her writing is deeply informed by her expertise in the area of Grief Recovery.  Williams is one of only 10 Certification Trainers in the country — and the only person of color — of the Grief Recovery Method which is the only evidence-based grief recovery program in the nation.

Williams is a published author with a selection of her work appearing in the anthology Grief Dialogues.  Her writings have also appeared in The Atlantic (The Conversation), the Editor’s List of Authority Magazine, Thrive Global, and Eve Daily Magazine.

Williams holds a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish Language from the University of California, Davis, and an M.F.A in Dramatic Art from the University of Washington.  She is also a certified PeopleKeys DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance) behavior analyst.

As a single person, Williams began a blog to encourage other singles who struggle with that season of life; the blog then expanded into dating, mental health, among other things.  She has appeared on multiple podcasts and radio shows to discuss a range of topics involving infertility, celebrating holidays without loved ones, singleness, and recovering from loss.

Williams has a heart for health, healing, and recovery and is very excited to explore ways in which we can stop pursuing happiness but instead learn how to experience and recognize it more in everyday life.

A Bay Area native, Williams lives in Northern California with her husband, Angelo, and their son Jonathan.
