A Dialogue on repairing community through local reparations

In 2021, Evanston, Illinois, became the first U.S. city to fund local reparations, offering eligible Black residents $25,000 grants for housing assistance.

This month, Monroe Nichols, the first Black mayor of Tulsa, Oklahoma, proposed a $105 million reparations package to support descendants of the 1921 Race Massacre with housing, education, and health initiatives.

This episode of “Dialogue” features the president of the Champaign-Urbana Reparations Coalition, who shares their vision for local repair and how a recent town hall opened the door to community-led conversations about justice and accountability.

The Champaign-Urbana Reparations Coalition is a financial supporter of Illinois Public Media. Dialogue covers the group as it does any other organization.
