Black Men’s Health and the Tallahassee Area Chapter of 100 Black Men of America are hosting a forum on prostate health 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7 in the Leon County Health Department, 872 W. Orange Ave.
The free event begins at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments.
Black Men’s Health is an organization focused on inspiring positive change among Black men worldwide so that they lead balanced and healthy lifestyles, according to its website.
100 Black Men of America has been around for 60 years and is recognized as the nation’s top African American led mentoring program. The organization is committed to improving the quality of life in Black communities and increasing educational and economic opportunities for Black people.
The forum is in partnership with other wellness organizations such as the Bond Community Health Center, Council on the Status of Men and Boys, Tallahassee Trainers Foundation, Men’s Health Network, and the Neighborhood Medical Center.
The evening will also feature guests like Charlie Richardson, M.D., a general surgeon at the Neighborhood Medical Center, and John Bruce, the program director of the Men’s Health Network.
According to Zero Prostate Cancer, one in six Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and are more likely to pass away from the disease than any other race.
