Upcoming Black Business Ball gives Black-owned businesses a night to shine

We’re in the countdown! The fourth annual Black Business Ball will celebrate Black excellence and spotlight the achievements of Black-owned businesses this Sunday, October 8 at Quincy Hall, 1325 Quincy St NE in Minneapolis.

Presented by Black Business Enterprises, the red carpet preview for the elegant event starts at 5:00 p.m. The ball itself begins at 6:00 and runs through 11:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Night In Marrakesh,” which will celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the North African country.

“We want people to come in Moroccan-inspired attire, which is very colorful and vibrant. Come dressed like kings and queens, elegant and regal,” said Nancy Korsah, founder of Black Business Enterprises. “We’ll have the atmosphere with a belly dancer, Moroccan food. We wanted to find something that would bring us a little bit of the culture to our city, because we deserve it.”

The black-tie gala will uplift Black entrepreneurs, recognizing and presenting awards to business owners who are making a difference and making names for themselves.

“We are creating a buzz around Black-owned businesses. A lot of people are out here doing work and are killing it,” Korsah explained. “People from the community have nominated businesses. It’s not a competition but a way to bring to the forefront what Black-owned businesses are doing in our city. We have to say our names and clap for each other.”

In addition to the entertainment and the chance to rub well-dressed shoulders in some power networking, those who attend the gala will also raise funds that will contribute to grants that empower Black-owned businesses in Minnesota. In addition to financial support, Black Business Enterprises provides access to technology, financial literacy classes, credit-building courses, and educational workshops.

Korsah stresses that the Black Business Ball welcomes people from across the community.

“Allies are invited. Sometimes they might feel like they don’t belong there but this is exactly where they belong. It’s their opportunity to share space with people who are elevating their community,” she said.

“And if they can’t come they can show support by sponsoring people and donating a ticket,” Broadcaster, podcaster and small business owner Sheletta Brundidge, founder of ShelettaMakesMeLaugh.com, will be the host for the event.
