The Unity Group of Chattanooga has released its official schedule for the 55th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Week Celebration.
Here is a list of all the scheduled events, presentations, and performances:
According to their website, the Unity Group first organized in the fall of 1969 to help elect black candidates to local government positions.
Unity Group initiated a 1970 march in Chattanooga to make Dr. MLK’s birthday a national holiday. That march evolved into the annual celebration, consisting of workshops, prayer breakfasts, and cross culture worship services.
The organization also pushed to rename 9th Street to M.L. King Blvd.
