Yesterday, President Biden hosted a fundraiser in New York City in support of his presidential campaign. Hosted by comedian and late night television host Stephen Colbert, President Biden was joined by two former United States Presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, for an epic trio. The three leaders spoke—lightheartedly yet sternly—about the upcoming election and concerns about the stake of our democracy.
“I think our democracy is at stake, not a joke, I think democracy is literally at stake. Look, I wasn’t going to run in 2020 because I had just lost my son Beau… until I watched what happened down in Virginia,” shared President Biden. He continued, “When those folks came out of the fields carrying torches and Nazi flags, accompanied by white supremacists, and a young woman was killed, a bystander. And when the.. former President was asked what he thought he said ‘There are very fine people on both sides.'”
Actors Courtney B. Vance and Lamman Rucker; recording artist Raheem DeVaughn; author and licensed psychologist Dr. Robin L. Smith and public health analyst from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Dr. Walker Tisdale joined moderator Charisse Jones of USA Today at the White House Office of Public Engagement roundtable on President Biden’s efforts to support Black men’s mental health.
