State Lawmaker Introduces First Reparations-Related Bill

Reparations for Black Americans in California is making progress. Senator Steven Bradford of Gardena introduced a reparations bill to the California Legislature in Sacramento.

The bill would form a state department to hand out reparations.

The amount or compensation for ancestors of enslaved African Americans has not been decided yet.

It’s the first reparations bill introduced since the state-appointed task force turned in its final report on what reparations would look like.

Suggestions included financial payments, free healthcare, or tax relief.
