Southern Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative next weekend

In conjunction with National Minority Health Month, Community Action of Southern Indiana (CASI) will coordinate the Southern Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.

Community Action of Southern Indiana and its community health partners will provide free health screenings.

Friday, April 26 in New Albany

• DeJay’s Barbershop, 1302 State St., New Albany, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, April 27 in New Albany

• Pryor’s Place, 432 E. Fifth St., New Albany, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Beyond Vision Barbershop, 1634 E. Spring St., New Albany, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday. April 27 in Jeffersonville

• NuLook, 1626 Spring St., Jeffersonville, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Masters Touch, 716 E. 10th St., Jeffersonville, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Mark’s Barber & Style, 928 Fulton St., Jeffersonville, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Southern Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative makes it convenient for African American men to be proactive with their health. Recent figures from the Indiana Department of Health show African American men have the highest mortality rate of any group in Indiana.

By providing free blood pressure, body mass and weight screenings, and blood sugar screenings, The Southern Indiana Black Barbershop Health initiative helps African American men identify potential health problems.
