RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Late last week, Sanford Health announced they would be taking control of multiple health centers throughout the Black Hills, leaving many to wonder what this mean’s for healthcare after the transition.
Sanford Health announced it will become the parent company of Rapid City’s Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Black Hills Surgical Hospital, as well as the Gillette, Wyoming Black Hills Surgery Center.
Those locations officially transitioned Monday, and CEO and President Bill Gassen said patients shouldn’t be concerned about the quality of the care they will receive going forward.
“People need to understand and expect that the incredible care they have come to rely upon with Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Black Hills Surgical Hospital is not only going to continue, but in that same vein, we’re going to continue to expand and improve healthcare for the entire region,” Gassen said.
Gassen added, Sanford’s main goal moving forward will be to detect health care gaps in the Black Hills and work with these facilities and physicians to find ways to best address the needs of patients.
“To really identify where are the care gaps in this community, and how can we work together to close that? At the end of the day, the goal is how do more people here in Rapid City and the surrounding area get more care right here at home,” Gassen said.
Gassen, a Rapid City native, said he is looking forward to impacting the lives of people in the community he grew up in with better care for years to come.
