Restored historically Black school in Gordonsville holds first health fair

GORDONSVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – St. John Family Life and Fitness Center held its first ever health and safety fair.

Organizers said the event was about promoting health in every aspect. Attendees learned skills like CPR and how to avoid being scammed, and could get vaccinations and have their blood pressure tested.

Booths ranged from UVA Health to the League of Women Voters.

“We want people to live longer and have better quality of life, and that’s one of our goals, and not just for alumni,” President of St. John Family Life and Fitness Center Rebecca Kinney said. “It’s not just for the just community, but surrounding areas also. This is an event that we’ve been planning or wanting to plan for years, and so this the first event since we opened in 2023.”

Kinney said she hopes this event is the first of many.
