Raising awareness for Black Maternal Health Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — It’s Black Maternal Health Week and local lawmakers are working together to bring awareness to the current state of racial bias in the field of maternal health.

As of right now, the maternal mortality rate in Monroe County is 40 percent higher than the state-wide average and that mostly affects black women.

State Senator Samra Brouck who represents Rochester in the legislature, has been an advocate for doula services and continues to work to keep maternal health resources and funding at the top of the state agenda.
