Police: Triple shooting in Oxford was part of random crime spree

One person shot during an alleged random crime spree in Oxford has died and two others were hospitalized.

OXFORD, Mich. (WJRT) – A suspect on a random crime spree shot three people in Oxford on Christmas Eve, leaving one victim dead, according to investigators.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says two other shooting victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the rampage along Ray Road between Lapeer and Oxford roads.

“At this point it appears that the terrible events of last night were completely random with the suspect just passing through the community when he went off on a violent spree at multiple locations,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

Authorities arrested a suspect and he remained in custody at the Oakland County Jail. Police did not identify the suspect on Thursday morning because he had not appeared in court for arraignment.

Investigators were looking for a motive behind the suspect’s attacks.

“He is a convicted felon with multiple past weapons offenses and we intend to seek every possible charge against him,” the sheriff’s office reported.

Police say the shootings were reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Ray Road near the Meijer store and Oxford High School. All three victims went to area hospitals, where one died.

The sheriff’s office says two other victims likely will survive their injuries.

Anyone with information about the shootings should call the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
