WASHINGTON (TNND) — Former President Barack Obama on Monday applauded Vice President Kamala Harris’s plan to offer 1 million forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs, claiming the move will help these individuals “build wealth.”
The Harris campaign announced the plan via its website Monday, explaining the loans could reach as high as $20,000 in value. The release also included a “National Health Equity Initiative” specifically targeting Black men and touted the Harris campaign’s support of legalizing marijuana and lowering rent prices.
The campaign added that while “Donald Trump is a serious threat to the lives of Black men,” Harris is “addressing the issues that Black men across the country have told her are their top concerns.”
Obama expressed support for the vice president’s efforts via X.
“@KamalaHarris has a plan that will lift up Black men and their families,” Obama wrote in a post. “She’s laid out some ways to give Black men the tools to build wealth, achieve financial freedom, and lower costs.”
Reacting to the post was country singer John Rich, who suggested the Harris campaign is experiencing floundering favorability with Black voters.
“When B.O. is begging black men to vote for his puppet, that’s a GREAT sign!” he wrote. “People who have been taken for granted for decades have now mounted a full blown rebellion against the evil empire. Let’s GO!!”

A New York Times/Siena College poll released last week determined 15% of likely Black voters plan to vote for former President Donald Trump in November. Eric Trump argued Monday Black voters are turning to his father’s campaign as Harris looks to maintain her eroding Black support.
“We’ve seen an uptick when it comes to African American support by the biggest numbers I think any Republican has ever seen, by a lot,” he told The National News Desk.
The proposal is just one of several economy-focused initiatives introduced by Harris’s campaign. In September, the vice president also suggested she would offer $25,000 in federal down payment assistance to all first-time homebuyers.
Former President Obama’s comment follows his arrival on the campaign trail to drive support for Harris. He described the vice president to supporters in Pennsylvania last week as “a leader who has spent her life fighting on behalf of people who need a voice and a chance.”
