‘Men need a safe space’: Mental health advocate discusses mental challenges black men face

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Everyone should have access to mental health resources in their community. WCTV is continuing a segment called Mindful Moment to help viewers care for their well-being.

Mental health advocate, Sam Carter visited WCTV studios to speak with Brianna Shaw about mental health stigmas among black men.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for Black or African American men ages 15-24, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Carter said not having mental health resources can lead to spiraling out of control, that’s why it’s so important for black men to have sound support and adequate treatment options.

The community leader said there are also things the community can do to support black and brown men.
