Thank you Dan Casey for your column regarding Black health and the 2024 Black Family Wellness Expo [“Expo aims to improve Black health,” Feb. 22].
I am very aware of the disparities in Black health care and health statistics. I really would like to have these words tattooed on my chest: “Treat me at the level of care of a white male, please.”
I am not joking as this is the best level of care a patient can receive. I do worry about the level of health care I receive simply because I am Black. This information needs to be included when talking about disparities in health care.
The problem I see, is that due to the high cost of having a newspaper subscription for The Roanoke Times, a large percentage of the folks that need to see this article cannot afford your paper.
I hope that this newspaper article’s valuable information will be displayed in Black churches, beauty salons, barber shops, corner stores, etc., for our Black citizens to see and take advantage of this great opportunity to check on our most precious asset, our health.
