TheGrio, Allen Media Group’s African-American focused news, lifestyle, sports and entertainment platform, recently celebrated iconic leaders and legends at the second annual “Byron Allen Presents TheGrio Awards,” a swanky black-tie event held at the Beverly Hilton that brimmed with plenty of star power.
Co-hosted by “The Talk’s” Sheryl Underwood and comedian Roy Wood, Jr., watch for “Byron Allen Presents TheGrio Awards” set to air Saturday, Nov. 25 from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.
According to Paramount+, the awards show celebrates the finest in film, music, comedy, television, sports, philanthropy, business, fashion, social justice, environmental justice, and education, as well as the cultural icons and innovators whose contributions continue to impact America in a positive way.
What’s more, the special pays tribute to and puts the spotlight on the history makers, change agents and artists who have defined and influence our world.
Honorees include Mariah Carey (The Music Icon Award), Don Cheadle (The Environmental Champion Icon Award), Misty Copeland (The Trailblazer Icon Award), Dr. Kizzmekia S Corbett-Helaire (The Science Icon Award), Tamron Hall (The Journalism Icon Award), Kevin Hart (The Comedy Icon Award), Steve Harvey (The Television Icon Award), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Inspirational Icon Award), Eddie Murphy (The Icon Award), The Reverend Al Sharpton (The Justice Icon Award) and Denzel Washington (The Film Icon Award).
“Byron Allen Presents TheGrio Awards” will also showcase musical performances by Boyz II Men, Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Patti LaBelle and Smokey Robinson.
Greg Phillinganes serves as musical director, and DJ Kiss acts as the deejay for the awards special.
