Thanksgiving and football have long been intertwined, whether it’s heading out or your annual family football game before chowing down, or settling down to watch the annual games before (or after) dinner. Usually, the next day, Black Friday, is seen as a day for shopping, relaxing, and eating leftovers, but this year, the football action is going to carry over for what could become a brand new holiday tradition.
For the first time ever, Amazon Prime Video will air a Black Friday NFL game on November 24. Prime is in its second year of airing Thursday Night Football, so this marks a new venture for the two industry giants. “Thanksgiving is synonymous with football and we’re excited to give our fans another day of NFL action during this holiday weekend,” Hans Schroeder, chief operating officer for NFL Media, said. “Amazon is uniquely positioned to partner with us for this game as Black Friday is one of the most important days of the year for their business.”
“Black Friday is the unofficial start of the holiday season, and we’re thrilled to kick it off with a gift for football fans across the country with this new game,” Jay Marine, Global Head of Sports for Prime Video, added.
The game will be between the AFC East rivals Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, and it’ll be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. But if you want to watch the game from the warmth and comfort of your own home, here’s the best way to catch the Jets v. Dolphins game on Black Friday.
How to watch the Black Friday NFL game
The NFL’s Black Friday game will air on Prime Video on Friday, November 24 at 3 p.m. EST. Don’t have a Prime account? No problem. The Black Friday game will be available to anyone that has an Amazon account, so you won’t need to subscribe to Amazon Prime to watch the game. Game day festivities will also include a Black Friday pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m. EST, and if you’re local to either of the teams playing, the game will also be televised on stations in the home markets of the two teams, just like NFL Thursday Night Football.

As for if this tradition will continue going forward, it seems pretty likely. While speaking at a Fall League Meeting in 2022, Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that while there was no concrete commitment to air another Black Friday game beyond 2023, the league does not usually “do things for one year.”
