ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – February is the celebration of Black History Month, and its an ample time to recognize successful and growing Black on businesses in our community.
All Braids and Hair Care, as well as Boss the Barber, are two Rochester-based businesses that have been growing and seeing continued success over the past few years.
“So far, it’s been great. Last six years I feel like a lot of my business has been progressing throughout the years for client and clientele,” Boss the Barber owner Leon Whaley said.
Whaley also spoke on how it’s important for Black-owned businesses to continue to grow in the city.
“I just feel like it’s important just to show our culture, to be able to grow and that they can do anything they put their heart and mind to, and I think its good for people to become their own entrepreneur and just do the things that they love doing,” Whaley added.
Lola Oloye is another business owner who has seen a great deal of success. Oloye recently even the Black Entrepreneur Day event at the state capitol, where she says she was happy to see fellow business owners supporting one another.
“Just seeing all the entrepreneurs there, people connecting with each other, resources and getting information on how to grow their business, I couldn’t paint a better picture,” Oloye explained.
Both Whaley and Oloye spoke on how important it is in recognizing the significance of black history beyond the confines of this single month.
