HAMPTON, Va. — Black families sometimes face very specific challenges. That’s why Celebrate Healthcare and Hampton/Newport News Chapters of The Links Inc. joined together to host their annual Black Family Wellness Expo. It kicked off at 11 a.m. at the Mary W. Jackson Neighborhood Center in Hampton.
The event offered many resources for participants, including free youth haircuts, a maternity health baby shower for expectant mothers, line dancing class and so much more. The family event also offered free health screenings, COVID, flu and pneumonia vaccines, along with dental screenings for children twelve years and under.
“So we’re a one stop shop. We all come together to give resources for families to thrive!” said Gaylene Kanoyton, President of Celebrate Healthcare.
Families and individuals could also enroll in a health insurance or Medicaid plan at the wellness expo. Families who couldn’t make it to the expo are encouraged to visit celebratehealthcare.net for additional details regarding any of the resources provided at Saturday’s event.
