Gov. Phil Murphy will make opening remarks at the African American Chamber of Commerce’s Black History Month Gala, Feb. 12, at the Venetian in Garfield.
The AACCNJ Annual Awards Gala, themed “Resilience and Hope,” is the premier Black History Month event in the state of New Jersey. Truist will serve as the premier sponsor.
The event provides the platform, on behalf of the members of the AACCNJ and the over 88,000 Black owned businesses in the state of New Jersey, to continue to increase the visibility of its members and businesses.
Chamber Founder and CEO John Harmon said he is thrilled that the governor will attend.
“We are at a critical juncture for our co-existence in New Jersey,” he said. “The governor’s presence is significant and appreciated as we look forward to advancing a more intentional economic agenda to improve the social economic standing of Black people in New Jersey.”
Cheryl Tyler, special agent with the United States Secret Service, will serve as the Keynote Speaker.
With more than 25 years of experience in the security, intelligence, and risk assessment industry, Tyler has developed an expertise in logistical advance, investigative skills, intelligence threat and risk assessment and analysis, and criminal investigations.
Tyler was a training instructor at the Secret Service Academy and the first woman of color assigned to the Presidential Protective Division, where she served on protective duty for Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
The event also will recognize a distinguished group of African Americans that have attained a significant level of accomplishment in business, politics, education, sports and/or entertainment.
