Gentle reader, for some time now, I have intended to write something about the “slavery reparations” movement, but it never seemed to be the opportune moment. However, when I saw the front-page cover of the July 24 issue of TIME magazine, I concluded that moment had arrived, inasmuch as that cover had in large type the following lines: “Slavery Reparations are Coming,” followed by, “A Historic Global Movement Gains Power in Barbados,” by Janell Ross.
Although, as the front page indicates, the main body of the eight-page article is built around the island of Barbados, and the Drax family, it does mention U.S. proposals for action in various states and cities, including California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey.
