Dual realities is a term often applied to the disparate lives and experiences
of Black women.
On 22 July, Vice President Kamala Harris received the
endorsements needed for the nomination to run for President of the United
States. On the same day, Illinois State Police released body-cam footage
showing the fatal 06 July shooting of Sonya Massey.
One Black woman, Kamala Harris, is on the brink of making history.
Whereas another Black woman, Sonya Massey, was shot to death in her
kitchen, wearing her pajamas. Ms. Massey was viewed as a threat, and for
many, our current Vice President and Presidential candidate is perceived
as threatening for similar and different reasons.
The September edition of Black Talk will explore the current historical
moment Black women in the United States inhabit. We will feature the
voices of three Black women who are separated generationally but united
by a common narrative.
