Foodpreneurs Hub secures $500,000 pre-seed to tackle food insecurity in Africa

The news: 

• Foodpreneurs Hub, a Nigerian-founded foodtech platform, has announced raising $500,000 in pre-seed funding to advance its mission of combating food insecurity across Africa. The company didn’t name the investors in the round. 
• The funds will allow Foodpreneurs Hub to accelerate its work of bridging the gap between food production and post-harvest food loss, which accounts for over 40% of waste in Africa.  

Founded by Olushola Oladejo (CEO) and Yosola Oke (COO), the startup empowers African food entrepreneurs by providing training, mentorship, and access to strategic partnerships. 

The organisation’s commitment to enhancing food sustainability by supporting entrepreneurs in food processing directly addresses this issue, offering solutions to reduce food loss and improve food security.

“Our mission is to democratise food processing,” said Oke in a recent interview. “We are building a community that empowers aspiring entrepreneurs to innovate, create jobs, and contribute to food security across the continent.”

Per the company, Foodpreneurs Hub is designed as a comprehensive resource for African food innovators, offering coaching on product development, business planning, and market research. 

Through initiatives like the “FoodStars Business Scale-Up,” a six-week programme providing mentorship and access to capital, entrepreneurs in the food industry can pitch their ventures and compete for funding of up to $1,000.

This recent funding round is a significant milestone for the organisation, following earlier investments. 

In May 2024, The Nation reported that Foodpreneurs Hub received a $5 million investment from Fusen Funds, led by American billionaire Chris Klaus. This investment was aimed at enabling the company to further extend its support for food entrepreneurs, helping them overcome practical challenges in the field.

The foodtech startup claims to be doing everything it can to ensure Africa’s food security by assisting food processing entrepreneurs. As Oladejo puts it, “We’re not just addressing the symptoms of food insecurity; we are tackling the root causes by equipping the next generation of food innovators.

“With this latest round of funding, the team at Foodpreneurs Hub is poised to scale its impact across the continent, continuing its mission to drive entrepreneurship, foster sustainable development, and build a food-secure future for Africa.
