Father in ‘The Boy in the Box’ case seeks jail release during appeal process

The attorneys for the father at the center of “The Boy in the Box” case are asking for him to be released from jail after filing a notice of appeal.

Timothy Ferriter, 48, was found guilty on October 12 of aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment. He was sentenced to five years behind bars plus five years probation on November 16 for locking his son in an eight-by-eight, box-like structure in the family garage.

The nine-page notice of release was filed on the morning of November 20. It includes reasons as to why Timothy should be released on an appellate bond.

This isn’t the first time Timothy sought to be released from jail. Before his sentencing, Timothy’s attorneys asked the court to release him on a $100,000 bond on October 19. However, a judge denied Timothy the request on October 23.

Timothy’s wife — Tracy — is also charged in this case but will be tried separately at a later date.
