The Daytona Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is honoring Black women who are making their mark in the political arena.
They are hosting a webinar titled “Women in Politics: The Black Women’s Influence” on Monday, June 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will run until 8 p.m.
Because of their activism and influence in Florida politics, the Daytona Beach Deltas have invited four women of political influence to serve on a panel to discuss “All Things Civic Engagement” from the view of a Black woman.
The women – all state lawmakers – are Florida State District 5 Senator Tracie Davis, Florida House District 40 Representative Lavon Bracy-Davis, Florida House District 13 Representative Angela Nixon and Florida House District 62 Representative Michele Rayner-Goolsby.
Dr. Sadie McConner will serve as the moderator. McConner is the sorority chapter’s co-chair of its Social Action and Political Action Committee. In addition to highlighting the women’s accomplishments and challenges in politics, the event will stress the importance of civic engagement, voting and voting rights.
“We are in a time in politics where Black women must continue to raise the awareness of issues involving Black and Brown communities and what plans are being made to increase voter turnout,” stated Donna Tucker, president of the Daytona Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Following the discussion there will be a question-and-answer session where the lawmakers will take questions from those who log onto the event at https://bit.ly/3WQ7PfE.
There are also prizes being given out for those who log on to listen.
“We are inviting organizations, individuals and any person (regardless of gender) who believes that our right to the ballot box will not be compromised.
… We look forward to you joining this all too important initiative,” said Tucker.
