The consultation of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the consultative opinion on climate has made it clear that there is a solid basis for claiming the right to climate reparations. Vulnerable communities in Latin America and the Global South are raising their voices to demand responsibility of states due to transboundary environmental harm.
The adverse effects of climate change are eroding sustainable development gains and violating human rights. Community-led research, advocacy and strategic litigation initiatives are paving the way towards justice and redress for losses and damages.
