Cleveland Fairfax neighborhood challenges Black women to take charge of their health on MLK Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio — On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Cleveland Clinic will offer free women’s health screenings to address the unique health needs of African Americans in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood and other areas of high need.

Walk-ins will be accepted.

When: Doors open at 9:30 a.m. The program begins at 10 a.m.

Where: Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center, 2390 East 79th St., Cleveland. Parking is available in front of the building and in an open lot directly across the street.

What: Free health screenings for blood pressure, body mass index, breast cancer, cervical cancer, multiple myeloma (rare blood cancer), and other health risks. Other activities will include cooking demos, a mental health workshop and yoga.

The event is presented in partnership with local chapters of African American sororities, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
