Chicago’s 8th District businesses (Chicago Lawn) are witnessing a troubling trend of armed robberies this October. Enhanced vigilance has been encouraged following a recent alert released by the Chicago Police Department (CPD), detailing a string of incidents in different locations at varying times. The perpetrators, brandishing handguns, have made forceful demands for property.
Per the CPD’s alert, the first robbery occurred on October 11th, on South Kedzie. From then onwards, a total of three additional incidents have been reported, with the latest two unfolding yesterday, October 19th, on West 59th Street and West 47th Street. Reported culprits include two or three African American males, aged between 20 to 30, approximately 150 pounds in weight and ranging in to height 5’08” to 6’00”.
The police have issued advice to business owners amid these worrying incidents. They suggest keeping calm if faced with an assailant and taking note of any distinctive physical traits which may aid in the assailant’s identification.
