It’s no secret that family-owned businesses play an integral role in Louisa County. Businesses such as these are often the lifeblood of a community, creating personable relationships that last a lifetime, and are what truly epitomizes that small town feel.
Originally founded in 1951, it was once known as the Thomasson Funeral Home. For more than 50 years families in Louisa trusted John E. Thomasson to help them during their time of grieving. Thomasson was the first African American elected to public office in the county and was honored as “Mortician of the year” in 1995, while acting as a member of the Virginia Morticians’ Association. With big shoes to fill, D.D. Watson Jr. stepped up to the plate. Watson Jr. purchased the funeral home in October of 2004, and eventually went on to change the name to “D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc.”
