State lawmakers are sending four reparations bills onto the next step. They passed out of committees yesterday as part of an effort to correct the harms of slavery and discrimination against Black Californians.
One would compensate families who had their property taken in eminent domain. Another would issue a formal apology for human rights violations. The bills will be coming up for full floor votes soon. They must pass by August 31st to be sent to the governor’s desk. He then has until September 15th to sign them.
