Jefferson City Boys & Girls Club members’ art work has gone on display at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital to recognize Black History Month.
During a ceremony On Thursday, members presented original work representing influential Black STEM icons, such as Mae Jemison, Leland D. Melvin, Alan Emtage, Katherine Johnson, Dr. Tarika Barrett, Marie M. Daly and Neil Degrasse Tyson.
These historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators have made vital contributions to science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM.
For several years, the Boys & Girls Club has participated in the US Cellular artwork contest celebrating Black history. The communications company provides prizes ranging from $100 to $250.
The public can vote for their favorite piece of art through Valentine’s Day. The top three submissions will be named national winners and receive an additional $250. The home club also will get a $1,500 award.
