Community organizations and stakeholders will gather on March 1 in Ajax to discuss the barriers faced by Black patients in the health care system.
The first-ever ‘Black Health and Wellness Day’ event goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ajax Convention Centre. It’s being hosted by the Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC, formerly known as Carea).
“This event is an important step in building trust between Durham’s healthcare partners and Black people in our community,” noted Dr. Kirk Stewart, executive lead on the DCHC’s Black Health and Wellness Team.
Organizers say you can get a free screening for type 2 diabetes, hypertension and other conditions.
You can also network with Black doctors and health professionals.
The event will also feature a panel discussion featuring community leaders.
