Black Family Wellness Expo to highlight solutions to health disparities

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Members of Rochester’s chapter of The Links, Incorporated sitting down with News 8 at Sunrise to talk about their upcoming event: the Black Family Wellness Expo.

Organizers say the goal is to provide accessible preventative care and educational opportunities for local families to better understand and take care of their health. They further explain the goal is to close the gap on inequities to healthcare traditionally found in Black communities.

The event will feature diabetes and cancer screenings–including a mobile mammography unit–dental and vision providers, and blood pressure checks. There are currently 30 vendors in total signed up to provide a wide range of health education and screenings, including those who can address mental health and resources to access healthy lifestyle choices.

This is also a family-friendly event with fun activities planned for children and free giveaways.

The Black Family Wellness Expo will be Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at School #33 (500 Webster Avenue, Rochester, New York 14609).
