The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) announced Wednesday that ProgressPAC, BCA’s pro-jobs political affiliate, has endorsed a second round of judicial candidates including Chris McCool for Supreme Court and Thomas Govan for Court of Criminal Appeals.
The ProgressPAC board of directors interviewed candidates seeking election to the following seats in 2024: Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Supreme Court Associate Justice Place One, and Court of Criminal Appeals Place Two. Endorsements were made in support of McCool and Govan, and after thoroughly evaluating the Chief Justice race, an endorsement was not made.
“ProgressPAC is proud to endorse candidates who maintain a commitment to fairness concerning the interests of Alabama businesses,” said ProgressPAC Chairman Mark Drew. “Now more than ever, it is crucial we elect pro-business judges that will uphold the rule of law and ensure a legal system that does what is right for businesses and all citizens of this state.”
With a quarter-century of legal experience as a lawyer, prosecutor, and judge, Chris McCool has spent almost his entire legal career in public service. A native of Gordo, Alabama, McCool practiced law in his hometown for two years before serving as District Attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit (Pickens, Fayette, and Lamar Counties) from 2001 until 2018 and most recently on the Court of Criminal Appeals since 2018.
As a small business owner who knows what it means to struggle to make ends meet, Judge McCool has dedicated himself to advocating for common sense and small-town values, maintaining a conservative judicial policy, and practicing constitutional conservatism.
Judge Chris McCool is vying for the Republican Party nomination for an open seat on the Alabama Supreme Court.
Thomas Govan, currently the chief of the Criminal Trials Division at the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and a dedicated U.S. Air Force Reserve officer, brings over 15 years of experience protecting Alabama families. A seasoned prosecutor and advocate for justice, Govan has litigated cases in state and federal courts, even presenting before the United States Supreme Court in 2018.
As a lifelong conservative and an experienced champion for justice in Alabama, Govan has set his campaign focus on creating a just and effective court that Alabamians can trust and believe in.
Thomas Govan is seeking the Republican Party nomination for Place Two on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
Both primary elections will occur on March 5, 2024, and the general elections will be held on November 5, 2024.
