Baltimore City Health Department headquarters renamed honoring first Black health commissioner

The headquarters for the Baltimore City Health Department was renamed today in honor of Dr. Maxie Collier, the City’s first Black Health Commissioner.

Mayor Brandon Scott said he benefitted from Dr. Collier’s work because of his focus on underserved communities.

“He established community-based health clinics, expanded HIV testing and treatment services, worked to improve mental heath services in Baltimore, supported innovative solution to substance abuse abuse treatment and launched programs to address the city’s high infant mortality rate,” said Mayor Scott.
