ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An Atlanta-based platform is connecting Black men and women to Black therapists in their area.
“I want them to feel like family,” said founder of Black Female Therapists, Amber Dee. “That also is very therapeutic to be able to talk about it and get it off your chest.”
Dee has created a directory for people of color to find Black mental health care professionals in their area.
“What we promote is Black therapists, so if you are looking for therapists of color then you can come to our director for men or for women,” said Dee, “It is really important to have a therapist that knows backgrounds… cultural backgrounds.”
They also provide support groups.
“Mental health is universal so we talk about mental health topics, how anxiety may show up for you, and also how it might show up for people of color,” said Dee.
