Ithaca Common Council funds reparations study for Black Ithacans

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Ithaca is funding a study on reparations.

Alderperson Phoebe Brown was one of two Common Council members to introduce the budget amendment. She says the time is long past due.

Brown tells us what she hopes the study will find once it begins.

Brown, who represents Ward 1, explains why reparations are important.

The Ithaca Common Council first began exploring potential reparations in 2022, later labeling it as a top priority. Last month, the Council agreed to fund up to $50,000 for a study that explores reparations for Black Ithacans.
