A routine traffic stop early Friday morning led to the arrest of two individuals on multiple drug and weapon charges, according to a statement from Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne.
At 1:15 a.m. on June 7, deputies from the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Task Force (GIVE) were patrolling in the Village of Lansing when they conducted a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet Malibu on Sheraton Drive. The vehicle’s registered owner, Terri L. Meddaugh, 60, of Lansing, was known to deputies to be in the company of Michael C. Gilmore, 29, of Ithaca, who was wanted on several warrants.
Upon confirming Gilmore’s presence in the vehicle, deputies took him into custody. During the arrest, deputies observed .380 ammunition and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, prompting a search.
The search uncovered a loaded Ruger LCP .380 semi-automatic pistol, a vial containing suspected methamphetamine, a crack pipe, and additional .380 ammunition under the seat where Gilmore had been sitting.
Gilmore was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class C felony) and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class A misdemeanor) after deputies found three plastic vials of suspected heroin/fentanyl concealed in his underwear. He was taken to the Tompkins County Jail for centralized arraignment and held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
Meddaugh was also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). She was held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Village of Cayuga Heights Police Department.
