Police in Athens have arrested a man who they say shot a woman with a flare gun Wednesday.
Preston Drury was charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault in the incident.
Police responded to a call of shots fired and found a woman with what they describe as an apparent impact wound to her chest.
The woman told police that Drury shot her in the chest with the flare gun and then fled on foot.
Police were able to find Drury shortly afterward. He told them that the woman brandished a knife put him in fear, so he shot the woman in the chest with the flare gun, which was later recovered.
The female victim suffered some serious burns to her upper chest and lacerations to her shoulder and face from the shrapnel discharged by the flare gun.
Drury, who police say was listed as homeless, was placed under arrest and transported to the McMinn County Justice Center.
