{KXLG – Hamlin County, SD} Over the weekend, South Dakota law enforcement officers were busy with two significant felony arrests.
On Sunday afternoon, May 19th, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary report at a business on the west side of Lake Poinsett. An unidentified individual had broken into the premises, causing considerable damage to the building. The perpetrator stole several items before fleeing the scene.
Following an investigation, deputies apprehended a 19-year-old man from Oldham, SD. The suspect was charged with Felony 3rd Degree Burglary, Intentional Damage to Property, and Petty Theft. He was transported to the Brookings County Detention Center, where he was granted a personal recognizance bond. As part of his bond conditions, the teenager was ordered to abide by the law and participate in a 24/7 alcohol monitoring program.
In a separate incident, a traffic stop was conducted in Castlewood at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th. The driver, a 64-year-old Castlewood man, was arrested on North 4th Avenue near East Merrill Street. He was charged with Felony DUI—4th and Driving while License was Revoked.
The man was taken to the Codington County Detention Center, where he was issued a $3,000 cash bond. Similar to the burglary suspect, he was also ordered to participate in the 24/7 alcohol monitoring program during his bond period.
