LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – An organization that advocates for maternal health rights for post-partum parents is starting a new chapter in their business.
The Black Birth Justice Maternal Health Hub announced they’ve received a grant for $5.5 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
It’s an organization led by Black women that creates a space to protect Black parents who’ve recently given birth.
During a press conference Tuesday, local representatives, organization leaders and clients celebrated the latest step in this local business.
“This is what partnerships look like when we talk about the local, state and federal level. Sometimes locally that money is not available, or sometimes people do not believe in that vision, but guess what, there is money available at the federal level,” Kentucky State Representative Ketura Herron said.
The Black Birth Justice Maternal Health Hub is located on Dixie Highway. They first opened in February of 2021, helping new families during the pandemic. They’ve since served over 300 parents.
