CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As we celebrate Black History Month we take a look at a segment of our population that often goes unrecognized: Those who share not one heritage, but two.
Case in point — a young, local entrepreneur, who is not only proud of her African American heritage, but also celebrates her Hispanic culture.
“You’re beautiful how you are,” said Alexandria Lott. “Mixed, African American, Hispanic, Asian – everybody. Like, I feel everyone is beautiful.”
Lott is one of the proud owners of the family business appropriately called “Positive Intentions.”
“It’s a little bit of all types of cultures here,” she said.
This “meta-physical” apothecary shop caters to all, and the ethnicities of the customers are as varied as the melting pot that America is today.
Pretty much every cultural spectrum is represented in this tiny store in the middle of the Corpus Christi Trade Center.
“We’ve been here for like two years, maybe going on three,” she said.
What makes this shop unique is the fabric of the family, which proudly represents two ethnicities and embraces each one.
“From the heart — like everything is from the heart,” she said.
And the love in Alexandria’s heart came from a very special point of inspiration.
“What it comes all the way down to — go deep down into my roots — is my grandfather,” she said. “He’s Hispanic, from Mexico. (He) came here a long time ago and recently he passed away, and he loves everything here and I know he’s happy that we’re all here working here together. That’s the main thing.”
Appreciating and embracing her bi-culturalism, using the skills that seemingly came naturally to her and her family.
“Yeah, he really taught us everything and now we opened up our own business and I know he’s proud of us for that, and that’s a big thing,” she said. “He was a very loving person as well. So that’s what really inspires me to come here and help everyone else to be like him.”
Representing and living life proudly while inspiring others to do the same.
