LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Kids in Crisis and Teens on the Edge have partnered with several agencies in Lake Charles to present the Black History Community Love Fest.
The event took place at Wiley B. McMillan Park.
The day was about educating people of all ages about topics like human trafficking, bullying, sexting, and the consequences of crime.
TOTE, or ‘Teens on the Edge’ is for children 13-19 years old. KIC, or ‘Kids in Crisis’ is catered towards children 6-12 years of age.
The purpose of both of these groups is to take some of the stress off of children and to above all make them aware of their choices in life.
“So we want to let them know that they are not alone. They can reach out. If there are questions they have that we can’t answer? We will find help for them,” said Apostle Shelly Dugas.
Dugas says in the future they plan to move from community to community, hosting events like this one to share the love and bring awareness to residents.
