PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Ujamaa marks day four of Kwanzaa, and in honor of the principle that celebrates cooperative economics, the African American Museum of Philadelphia held a bazaar at the pavilion in Franklin Square, highlighting local Black-owned businesses.
“It’s so many different people coming in. They might not know about Kwanzaa, and now they can know about cooperative economics. That’s why we’re all in this space together,” said Meeka Johnson, founder of All Black Everything, which provides a platform for more than 200 Black-owned businesses to market their products.
Meeka’s business was one of many packed into the pavilion selling their products at the bazaar. Things like custom journals, clothing, and candles, sold by Jocelyn Johnson, filled the tables.
She said it’s awesome being able to fellowship with other businesses and business owners during this time of celebration.
“We can all help each other, whether it’s just promotion or becoming partners with one another — all to help build each other up.”
It’s a theme that stretches across all seven days of Kwanzaa. Day five of Kwanzaa is called Nia, for purpose; day six, Kuumba, for creativity; and day seven, Imani, for faith.
