A Maine woman is accused of killing two people in the town of Denmark, including her own grandmother.
Who is the Suspect?
Tzara Jones, 53, of Denmark, is charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of her grandmother and her grandmother’s significant other. Jones was the caretaker for the couple at the time of their deaths.
How Were the Deceased Discovered?
When Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputies went to a home on Fuller Lane in Denmark Saturday afternoon to conduct a welfare check on an elderly woman and her significant other, they were met at the door by Jones who wouldn’t allow them to enter the residence. After obtaining a search warrant, the deputies went inside and found the two residents deceased.
What Do We Know About the Victims?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the victims have been identified as 93-year-old Aremean Mayo and 69-year-old Michael Willett. The home in which they died belonged to Mr. Willett. Both of the deceased were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where autopsies were performed. No word has been given on how the people died, but their deaths have been ruled homicides.
Jones was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation before being taken to the Oxford County Jail. She’s charged with two counts of murder. Jones is expected to make her first court appearance on Monday.
We’ll update this story as more details become available.
