‘Wonderful ride’: Greenville business announces its closing

A Greenville business says it’s been a wonderful ride by they will soon close the doors for good. The 1869 Boutique Liquor and Wine opened in Oct. 2021 on West Antrim Drive just off of Laurens Road and was Greenville’s only Black woman-owned liquor store. (Video above is a feature WYFF News 4 did on the business in 2021)The name represented the year the predominantly African-American community of Nicholtown landed on the map.The owners, Pam and Seldon Peden, posted the following message on Facebook: “Greenville, it’s been a wonderful ride! 1869 Boutique Liquor & Wine will close its doors this week. We’ve had the pleasure of offering the Upstate a unique spirit and wine purchasing experience, to include tastings, classes and intimate gatherings.”1869 requires more sacrifice and time away from our family and children than we are able to give. We are extremely grateful for your support and patronage, but more importantly, the opportunity to get to know and serve you.”The business is holding a sale on Tuesday and Thursday before closing.
