Brooklyn Community Board 18 convened on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for its regular monthly meetings at the CB 18 office at 1097 Bergen Ave.
The meeting was packed to the gills with residents and board members from Amersfort, Bergen Beach, Canarsie, Flatbush, Flatlands, Fraser, Georgetowne, Marine Park, Mill Basin and Mill Island.
During the meeting, owners of a cannabis shop called the Flatbush Pot Shop submitted an application for an adult-use retail dispensary premises license and were peppered with many questions from the board, which ultimately voted to approve her license.
Next, Assemblymember Monique Chandler-Waterman shared that a panel will gather at Medgar Evers College on Oct. 20 to discuss the impending legislation about to establish a reparations commission in New York.
Councilmember Mercedes Narcisse, who represents District 46, also addressed her constituents directly and talked about the $3 million allocated for the Jamaica Bay library to keep it open for extended hours.
Then, the State Liquor Authority Committee moved to form a subcommittee regarding cannabis in order to deal with the influx of cannabis-related business coming into the community. Members of the subcommittee will be chosen at a later time.
New and temporary liquor licenses for Elites Event Space at 1663 Ralph Ave., and CZEN NY LLC, at 4410 Avenue H, were voted on and approved by the board.
Then, the board voted on a proposed bylaw change that would switch the month of the CB 18 elections from January to June. The proposal failed to get the necessary votes required, so the election month for CB 18 officers stayed as is.
Ponce Bank provided a brief presentation on the Banking Development District Program offered through the state to bring additional banking services to areas in need.
The board voted to approve the resolution, welcoming the investment into their local community.
After that, the floor was opened to the public, thus concluding the loud and lively community board meeting.
The next CB 18 meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the CB 18 office at 1097 Bergen Ave. You can access the calendar here.
